12 one-move Janggi checkmates

Read the paths of chariot, cannon, horse, elephant and soldier, then find checkmate in one.

Choose a puzzle

  1. Open-file chariot

    Move the chariot onto the king’s file.

  2. Chariot down the edge

    The edge chariot can reach the first row.

  3. Chariot across the palace

    A chariot may use a palace line.

  4. Chariot through the center

    Occupy the palace center with the chariot.

  5. Keep the cannon screen

    A cannon must jump exactly one screen.

  6. Discovered attack

    Move the cannon and open the chariot line.

  7. Horse-leg mate

    Check the horse’s first orthogonal step before its L-shaped jump.

  8. Horse beside the palace

    Find the horse square attacking beside the palace.

  9. Elephant’s long route

    Both blocking points on the elephant route must be empty.

  10. Elephant mating net

    Use the elephant to close the last flight square.

  11. Soldier in the center

    A soldier moves forward or sideways.

  12. Palace-diagonal soldier

    Inside the palace, a soldier may move forward diagonally.
