Rules and controls

Cho starts on a 9×10 intersection board. A cannon must jump exactly one non-cannon piece and cannot capture a cannon. Horses and elephants can be blocked. Palace diagonals follow each piece's movement rules. You must escape check. Facing generals create bikjang: resolve it or accept a draw. Two consecutive passes or threefold repetition draw; no tournament points or clock.

Beginner strategy

Chariots move along ranks and files and may use a palace diagonal. Generals and guards stay inside their palace, moving one step on its lines. Soldiers move forward or sideways, with permitted forward palace diagonals, never backward. A horse moves one straight step then diagonally; an elephant one straight then two diagonal steps, and their paths must be clear. Free your major pieces without exposing the general. Do not assume a cannon attacks through another cannon.
